COMPLETION

Apr 1998 – May 2000

At 42 storeys high, the Royal & Sun Alliance Centre in the Auckland CBD is the tallest and biggest high-rise office building in New Zealand. Dominion worked as a key subcontractor in partnership with Fletcher Construction Ltd, utilising Dominion’s labour force and expertise to complete the main concrete structure of the tower.

Dominion also completed all the concrete foundations and cast-in metal items, along with the placing of the shoreload, falsework and framework. An example of the placement and usage of custom-designed formwork is in the main entrance to the building on Shortland Street, which shows the impressive columns outside the foyer.

There are five levels of basement parking, a podium-level lobby with landscaped gardens, a café, gymnasium and 32 floors of office space. The floor plates are the biggest in the country, at around 1600sq m. Dominion completed each floor on a weekly turnaround, ensuring maximum efficiencies and on-time construction.
