Workforce Planner

The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, who thrives on challenges, a team player, is down to earth and possess a strong work ethic. Key to this role is for you to efficiently and diligently carry out preparation, implementation and independent monitoring of the workforce over the life cycle of the projects.

Purpose of role:
  • To provide support to the project teams in putting together and reviewing the short- and long-term Labour requirements plans
  • To support project teams with recruitment and induction of direct & contracted labour resource
  • To be proactive in looking ahead to mitigate potential issues;
  • To ensure all direct labour have correct Site Safe, SOP and experience documentation signed off
  • To identify skills and competency gaps
  • Manage the relationship with external suppliers
Key Skills:
  • Assess the most effective resources for the timely completion of projects, including identification of any risk areas;
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure full understanding labour resource needs;
  • Preferably 5+ years in construction industry;
  • Plans and set appropriate actions underway to meet deadlines

Systems Trainer

We are on the hunt for a Systems Trainer who is keen to be part of a committed, down to earth team, that thrives on challenges and a strong work ethic. You will need to have proven experience as a Systems Trainer in this industry, so you can hit the ground running.

As the systems trainer you will be responsible for implementation and support of the learning associated with the systems. Manage change activities to improve user capability and coordinate improvement suggestions from the business. You will need strong knowledge of the industry and the ability to network for and utilise skill sets and business opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop expertise within the core software applications used – i.e. IPM, Procore, Acuite, Sharepoint, Yammer etc.
  • Carry out need’s analysis for all employees
  • Provide training on processes and associated systems
  • Manage incidents and problems associated with project systems.
  • Manage continual improvement of processes based on recognised methodologies.
Skills, Training & Experience:
  • Suitable experience in implementation of business systems and solutions in complex environments

BIM Manager

We are looking for an experienced BIM Manager who is keen to be part of a committed and down to earth team that thrives on challenges and has a strong work ethic.

You will be based on site and initially responsible for the digital delivery of one of our largest and most exciting construction projects – The Pullman Hotel at Auckland International Airport (a 311 room, 5 Star Hotel). The successful candidate will work closely with the project team including internal Design and Services Managers, and external team members. Ultimately, we are looking for a team player with a passion for digital design/construction technologies, a great attitude and a hunger to learn.

Responsibilities:
  • Write and maintain BIM Execution Plans for projects.
  • Manage disciplined model development processes (including staged deliveries) and ensure aspects like coordinate systems, naming conventions and modelling standards are adhered to by external parties.
  • Federate models at an agreed frequency for the project team in multiple software applications.
  • Manage the clash detection coordination process using cloud-based issue tracking and management tools. Includes setting and leading meetings, writing agendas, taking minutes and working effectively with internal and external team members to resolve issues.
  • Review and compare design models versus detailed ‘shop’ models.
  • Produce 4D construction sequence animations, image sequences and detailed methodology diagrams.
  • Model extra design detail in Revit as required (when not provided by other parties).
  • Manage the production, quality and delivery of highly detailed and accurate ‘as-built’ models including the input and delivery of associated asset information.
  • Help the construction team to view and utilise the model in different ways.
  • Actively monitor construction progress and input relevant information into model elements to indicate status (ie. installed yes/no, date installed, accuracy etc.)
  • Assist the QS from time to time with measurement and quantity take off from the model.
Skills, Training & Experience:
  • Proficient in the following software applications: Autodesk Revit, BIM 360 Design Collaboration, BIM 360 Field, BIM 360 Glue, Navisworks, Revizto, Aconex and Procore.
  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Architecture, Engineering or Construction.
  • Previous experience in BIM Management or BIM Coordination roles.
  • Experience within the commercial construction industry, preferably within a Main-Contractor/construction environment.
  • Has a deep understanding of design and construction processes.
  • Possess a mixture of advanced technical skills and management skills.
  • Ability to follow established industry and company specific standards.
  • Hungry to learn new methods/systems/skills and help the company progress on its digital journey.
  • Ability to collaborate with and coordinate digital design information with external project team members.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people across a project.
  • Be able to manage time and prioritise work.

Programmer

Key to this role is for you to efficiently and diligently carryout preparation, implementation and independent monitoring of the programmes in co-ordination with site Management team.

Purpose of role:
  • To provide programming support to the project teams ensuring a timely and efficient construction process;
  • To support project teams with mitigation strategies to reduce any time impact-related factors;
  • To be proactive in looking ahead to mitigate potential issues;
  • Provide support in communicating the programme sequencing/methodologies using various tools – 3-D software, sequencing plans etc;
  • To provide programming advice on methodology and sequencing during tender stage, taking into consideration Client drivers;
Key Skills:
  • Competence with programming software; MS Project preferable;
  • Preparation of tender programmes, including reviewing documents, assessing methodologies, liaising with potential sub-contractors, resource histograms, preparing site layouts and sequencing;
  • Assess the most effective resources for the timely completion of projects, including identification of any risk areas;
  • Assess programme risks and advise of potential mitigation strategies;
  • Prepare construction programme to achieve agreed parameters, and establish ongoing monitoring of that programme;
  • Prepare target programme in conjunction with project team and monitor;
  • Prepare and monitor information required schedules & procurement schedules;
  • Prepare and monitor independent progress updates against the baseline programme on projects at a frequency to suit the project, or as directed by the Planning Manager;
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure full understanding of methodologies;
  • Prepare weekly/monthly/3-monthly look-ahead programmes for project teams;
  • Support project teams with what-if’s, re-sequencing and general mitigation strategies when required;
  • Prepare phasing/staging layouts to assist project teams in understanding sequencing;
  • Prepare sub-contract programmes for project teams as required;
  • Prepare high-level indicative programmes based on limited information, usually required in short timeframes;
  • Forward-planning – advise project teams of potential issues at an early stage to help mitigate delays;
  • Support project team in preparing EOT submissions;
  • Update regular project summary sheets for projects as directed by Planning Manager;

Site Engineer

Auckland

Dominion is on the hunt for a Site Engineer to join our progressive team based in Auckland. This role is required to efficiently and diligently carryout set-out of on-site construction activities. Role will have you based on a major Dominion Project but will also require you to be available for input on tenders and on other Dominion projects if required. Depending on the size of the project you are based on you may also have a Junior Site Engineer to manage.

Key points:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience of which minimum 3 years’ experience as a site or project engineer.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent
  • Good communication skills
Role requirements:
  • Shop drawing review for precast and structural steel
  • Quality inspections on reinforcing
  • Quality inspections on precast
  • Detailed Planning and programming of specific tasks
  • Reporting to Consultants, Client and Senior managers

CADETSHIPS & APPRENTICESHIPS

Cadetships

  • We run a Construction Management Cadet (CMC) and Quantity Surveying Cadet (QSC) programme for employees who wish to become a Manager in the building industry with Dominion.
  • The programme takes approximately 36 months to complete.
  • Each cadet receives a training programme and logbook identifying the minimum skills, knowledge and experience required for a future career path. This assists with monitoring by both management and the Cadet.
  • Most of the training and experience is provided internally, with supplementary training by external providers also scheduled, including Site Safe and EMA one-day short courses.
  • Cadets are also required to keep a personal record of the training and work experience gained.”

 

Apprenticeships

  • We run an Apprenticeship scheme that covers both Commercial and Residential carpentry to give our Apprentices a wider scope of the trade
  • The programme takes approximately 4 years to complete.
  • Regular meetings are held with the Apprentice Manager and the training provider to assist in tracking the Apprentices performance in the class room and if further assistance is needed.
  • Each Apprentice receives an in-house training booklet with each unit standard broken down.
  • A Buddy system has also been established to provide each Apprentice with the extra guidance they may need to succeed
  • We aim to empower our Apprentices to reach their own individual goals and achieve their required targets

 

In 2014, Kandar Gibbes from our Residential team was placed 1st in the Auckland Region Apprentice of the Year competition and also placed 2nd in the National Apprentice of the Year competition in 2015.

In 2016, Daniel Gibson, also from our Residential team, placed 1st in the Apprentice World Skills Challenge in Auckland.
