PROJECT NAME

Value

CLIENT

Mainfreight Ltd

COMPLETION

August 2005 – September 2006

Dominion was the main contractor for the construction of Mainfreight’s new Head Office (4000m²), Warehouse (7800m²) and Freight Terminal (13,200m²) and upgrade to the 5 span access bridge over live railway.

The works were constructed using critical path planning to achieve a tight programme to enable the client to move freight and warehousing operations into the new facility ahead of the busy Christmas period. If this deadline had not been met, the occupation date would have been delayed 5 months until after the new year. The works were completed two weeks ahead of schedule.

As it was a greenfield site, a considerable number services were required. These included power, water, gas, communications, foul water and storm water, diesel bowsers, security and CCTV. This involved close liaison with the various service and utility authorities.

At the peak of construction upwards of 15 trades were working on the site, with daily staff numbers varying between 30 and 60 personnel. This required detailed planning by Dominion to ensure the works of the contractors did not adversely affect other contractors and that the works were carried out safely.
