COMPLETION

March 2014 – June 2015

We were thrilled to be awarded the Silver Quality Award at the NZ Commercial Project Awards 2016 for our achievements on the Mainfreight Hamilton project.

Dominion was selected as the main contractor for the Design and Build of Mainfreight’s new Freight Terminal in Te Rapa, Hamilton.

The warehouse, with attached office facility, is 165m long and 100m wide, covering 18,400m². The 100m wide structural steel span is supported by one central line of columns.

Built on Mainfreight land, the facility has seen Mainfreight install new rail sidings to connect with and access the North Island main trunk line. Dominion have coordinated laying over 5500m of new rail track and installed 2850m of 250mm deep Mono Pour Armour Joint system as part of the 8700m² of external yard slab concrete.

The Freight Terminal also boasts an automated truck washing facility with a water recycling system that recycles 80% of the water. LED lighting has been installed throughout to maximise power savings. A solar system has been installed on the roof with 170kW or 690no. panel array providing a significant power offset of usage onsite.

A 750m³ water storage tank has also been installed for fire-fighting and a 300m³ stormwater detention system put in place.

Despite frequent poor weather causing the usual issues on a large site such as this, the build progressed and completed on programme.
