HOBBS WHARF

PROJECT NAME

Hobbs Wharf

Value

$1,800,000

CLIENT

Hawkins Infrastructure

COMPLETION

March 2008 – August 2008

Dominion Constructors, as a key subcontractor to Hawkins Infrastructure, constructed the concrete structures for the marina and wharf at Hobbs Bay, adjacent to Gulf Harbour on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula.

The 315m long marina wall was constructed using 105 7m-high precast panels, stitched with in-situ concrete columns with waterbar construction joints to provide waterproofing. Self-compacting concrete was used in the columns, due to their height and the amount of reinforcing used. Working in a marine environment provided challenges, especially working with consistently damp ground conditions due to the site being several metres below sea level. The wharf was a fairly simple concrete structure of concrete piles, beams and columns with precast top.
